Woman gets five years for human trafficking

TAY NINH — Southern Tay Ninh Province People's Court yesterday sentenced a woman to five years in prison and handed out an additional penalty of VND5 million (US$263) for involvement in a human trafficking ring. According to the court's vedict, Nguyen Thi Le, 47, from Duong Minh Chau District, was involved in the trafficking of 10 Vietnamese women to Taiwan and Malaysia between 2002 and 2009.
Last December, while Le's son, Tran Hoang Anh, was helping a woman fill out procedures at Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City, he was arrested by the police.
